Becky Lea
Founder & CEO
Becky built Paws Around Motown from the ground up — with a leash in one hand and a whole lot of heart in the other. After a long career in retail management left her burnt out and unfulfilled, her husband asked a simple but life-changing question: “What brings you joy?” The answer was easy — dogs.
From volunteering at rescue events to walking pups between nanny shifts, Becky slowly turned her passion into a purpose-driven career. For the first 6+ years of Paws, she juggled two full-time jobs (plus contractor gigs) while pouring everything she had into building a business that’s now one of Michigan’s most trusted and celebrated pet care companies.
With over a decade of experience and more certifications than we can list (okay fine — CPDT-KA, Certified Dog Trainer, Certified Shelter Dog Trainer, Pet First Aid & CPR Instructor, Certified Dog Walker, Certified Pet Sitter… just to name a few), Becky is known for her obsession with learning, her sharp behavior knowledge, and her signature “dog whisperer” energy. If she’s holding the leash, it’s basically a dance. (And yes, the dogs follow her lead.)
She specializes in puppy training and socialization, reactivity work, and helping nervous rescues find their confidence. She’s also helped hundreds of families build stronger bonds with their pets — always through force-free, positive methods and deep mutual trust.
Becky’s philosophy? Pet care is a sacred kind of trust. She believes in leading with compassion, celebrating the small wins, and always showing up with both professionalism and heart. Whether she’s mentoring staff, cuddling a senior pup, or helping a fearful dog feel safe again, Becky’s mission is simple: to make life better — for pets, for people, and for the community she loves.
And she’s done just that. Paws Around Motown has been recognized as Small Business of the Month by the State of Michigan, named one of the top 5 dog walking companies in the state, and has won multiple local awards from 2020–2025. But Becky’s favorite achievement? Watching a once-feral dog choose to trust a human again. That’s the magic she’s here for.
